September 15, 2003: The Long Bad Summer: In Part 1 of the two-part eighth-season opener, the Camdens deal with the aftermath of a tragic event involving a family member, while Kevin and Lucy discuss their plans for the immediate future. Elsewhere, someone vandalizes the exterior of Eric's church.


September 22, 2003: An Early Fall: In the conclusion, Simon hears some big news about Mary; and Roxanne seeks Kevin's advice on dealing with a dispirited Chandler. Elsewhere, Eric ponders Simon's academic future; and Annie prepares for a potentially tense dinner engagement.


September 29, 2003: PK: Simon and Eric meet with a school-board official to explore Simon's educational options; Kevin gets roped into baby-sitting Det. Michaels' granddaughter, a youngster with a bad reputation. Elsewhere, Lucy discovers that Chandler is dating several women in their congregation; and Peter finds himself in a precarious situation when he tries to defend the Camden family honor.


October 6, 2003: I Wasn't Expecting That!: Kevin goes on medical leave after suffering injuries at work and his attitude toward Lucy changes drastically; Ruthie and Peter argue as they struggle with a difficult school project. Elsewhere, Rabbi Glass tells Eric that he and his wife are splitting up; and a strange teen shows up unexpectedly at the Camden home.


October 13, 2003: Simon Camden: Simon makes a video application for college that recounts the Camdens' family history in an episode that marks actor David Gallagher's departure from the series.


October 20, 2003: Charity Begins at Home: Eric asks his parishioners to do a good deed for someone in the community, but it takes Peter's advice for the reverend to realize that he must lead by example. Meanwhile, Kevin tries to answer Eric's request by starting a neighborhood watch program with Lucy, but she is less than thrilled with the venture.


November 3, 2003: Getting to Know You: Kevin holds a neighborhood-watch meeting at the Camden home on the same night that Cecilia's house is robbed; Annie plans a block party to welcome a new family, but Ruthie learns that the guests of honor might not attend.


November 10, 2003: Baggage: Kevin upsets Lucy by not asking her to join the police department's husband-and-wife softball team; Cecilia distances herself from the Camden family and begins dating a new guy. Elsewhere, Ruthie and Peter spend time with hospital patients to cheer them up; and Chandler prepares for his first real date with Paris.


November 17, 2003: Go Ask Alice: Eric clashes with a high-school principal (Meredith Baxter) over a family's request to bend a rule regarding the pickup of a student on campus property. Elsewhere, rumors about Martin upset Cecilia, who then regrets talking to Ruthie about her feelings.


November 24, 2003: The One Thing: Matt and Sarah begin their hospital training in New York City, where he irks her by easily performing tasks that the other students struggle to complete. However, Matt ends up looking foolish when he can't figure out how to turn off the ringer on his cell phone and he gets stuck fielding calls from his family.


January 5, 2004: When Bad Conversations Happen to Good People: Rabbi Glass offers Matt marital advice after the medical student and his wife have a fight; Kevin and Lucy get a dinner invitation from the officer's ex-wife, but he's reluctant to tell Lucy about it. Elsewhere, Peter thinks something is amiss when his mother goes out of town for a business trip; and Ruthie keeps a secret from her mother.


January 12, 2004: The Prodigal Father: Peter learns that his mom, Paris, met up with his dad during a recent out-of-town trip, and he's worried about how that will affect her budding relationship with Chandler. Later, Kevin asks Roxanne to do a background check on Peter's father after Peter comes to him for advice.


January 19, 2004: Major League: Martin (Tyler Hoechlin) is recruited by a professional baseball team, so he considers dropping out of school to play for them; Ruthie wants to go to a couples party with Peter, so she enlists Lucy's help to get their mother's permission. Elsewhere, Chandler gets a visit from his mother (Concetta Tomei) when he is named executor of his father's estate.


January 26, 2004: Healing Old Wounds: A party at the Camden home gets tense when Roxanne argues with Martin's aunt about the war in Iraq, but the police officer's tone changes when she meets Martin's father, a Marine on leave from the conflict. Elsewhere, Peter's parents discuss their future and Ruthie struggles with a homework assignment.


February 9, 2004: Don't Speak Ill of the Dead or the Living: For a school project, Ruthie and Peter create a newspaper featuring false and derogatory stories about two former U.S. presidents. Elsewhere, Kevin learns that Roxanne is keeping a secret from him regarding Lt. Michaels; Eric tries to find out why Annie won't contact her half sister (Michelle Phillips); and Cecilia plays matchmaker for one of Martin's friends.


February 16, 2004: The Anniversary: Lucy discovers that Matt is back in Glen Oak, while Ruthie knew about it but kept it to herself; Paris accepts a dinner date with Vic after discussing the situation with Chandler. Elsewhere, Martin lies to Cecilia about spending time with his guy friends instead of hanging out with her.


February 23, 2004: Two Weddings, and Engagement and a Funeral: Mrs. Bink asks Chandler to officiate at her wedding, but her fiancé's family objects to the union, so the Camdens help the couple elope in Eric's church. Elsewhere, Annie's sister Lilly announces her plans to wed and her desire to have their father walk her down the aisle, but Annie thinks the stress would be too much for him.


March 1, 2004: Angel: Lucy and Ruthie are concerned about Annie's upbeat mood after the family suffers a loss, and they wonder if their mom is masking her grief instead of dealing with it. Elsewhere, Chandler is approached by a mysterious young girl who gives him a cryptic message before she disappears.


April 19, 2004: There's No Place Like It: Lucy has her heart set on buying a house that's on the same street as the Camden home, only to discover that Chandler has already put in a bid on it. Meanwhile, Ruthie has designs on the garage apartment, but her mother objects, so Ruthie takes her frustration out on Martin because she thinks he will end up getting the place.


April 26, 2004: High and Dry: Lucy refuses to drink champagne with Kevin during their anniversary dinner; and Chandler's foster son asks him to rid their house of all alcoholic beverages. Elsewhere, Martin and Cecilia worry about their future together; and Peter lies to Ruthie about his plans for the evening when she asks him to help her baby-sit the twins.


May 3, 2004: Lost and Found: Ruthie and Peter miss their bus after a school trip and get lost on the way home, only to find help from Sudanese refugees Jacob Puka and Nicodemus A. Lim, two "Lost Boys" who share their harrowing experiences during Sudan's civil war. Elsewhere, Kevin and Roxanne are assigned to a stakeout, much to Lucy's chagrin; Chandler struggles with his new parental duties; and Cecilia and Martin argue about their hectic schedules.


May 10, 2004: Little White Lies: In Part 1 of two, Ruthie keeps a secret about a fellow student from her parents, and Matt encounters an ex-girlfriend on a flight to Glen Oak. Elsewhere, Lucy sets out to discover why Roxanne is suddenly too busy to hang out with her, and Martin learns that his baseball teammates think he's having sex with Cecilia.


May 17, 2004: Little White Lies, Part 2: The eighth season ends with the conclusion of a two-part episode as Matt ponders his future with Sarah, and Carlos awaits the birth of his child. Elsewhere, Peter keeps a secret from Ruthie; Martin tries to mend a rift with Cecilia; and Chandler falls for a new woman in his life.
